How can teachers support diverse readers so they can engage successfully in literacy activities?
In order to succeed, students need to have time to collaborate with their peers, opportunities to make connections to themselves and the world around them, and enough trust from their teachers to be able to make choices in their learning. Over the course of my graduate studies, as I have developed my teaching skills and reflected on my personal philosophy of education, I have found that these three things are now integral parts of my daily literacy instruction. All of my students continue to surprise me with their insight and success on assignments where they are allowed to collaborate, connect and choose.
